When you talk about technology and children, the first response you’ll get is, ‘keep them away from those gadgets because they’re harmful!’ However, research has shown that this isn’t true. Tablets and apps are helping kindergarten and college students alike to help them reach their highest potential.
According to a survey conducted by the Pearson Foundation, six in ten college and high school students agree that tablets assist them in studying more efficiently. 64% and 63% of them say that they perform better in class if they have digital help. In light of these stats, it is crucial that you start thinking about exposing your child to useful apps that will help him do better in school.
Unfortunately, with so many apps claiming to be the best, it is often difficult to choose the ones which are best suited to your child’s needs. This is why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to narrow down the choices to five apps that provide help in every area of education.
So, whether you’re worried about your child not keeping up with his assignment and missing deadlines or about the time he spends citing sources for his papers, you can install this list of apps and breathe easy.
I. Khan Academy
First on our list of great apps for students is the Khan Academy. This app was developed as an extension of the non-profit organization that was created by Salman Khan back in 2006. Though there are several explanations as to why this is the first app we’ve reviewed, the main reason is because unlike other apps, it offers a fun way of learning.
The app has a plethora of topics from math to science to English and is perfect for students who’re always hungry for more information. What makes this app stand out amongst the rest of its kind is that it is highly interactive.
It doesn’t only let you view videos on the topics of your interest, but also has more than 150,000 exercises that you can use to test your skills. Whether your child is facing issues with a particular subject or you want him/her to be well-rounded in their regular classes, this app is the perfect one for you.
You’re bound to see many homework and assignment apps both on the App Store as well as the Play Store. But even though they offer pretty much the same thing, myHomework is an app which provides you its features for free. Yes, your child can get help remembering about assignments, deadlines and class schedules, so they don’t fall behind.
The original app also assists students in managing their classes and lessons by inputting information about any tests and homework that is due, so they are up to date on everything, and nothing is missed. The best thing about this application is the fact that it streamlines everything, your child won’t feel overburdened and can instead allot different time and days to his assignments.
Register the app with their site and sync your computer with your mobile device and you’ll be ready to go!
No matter how much you loved studying; one of the things most of us hate collectively is citing references. It’s not that we don’t want to give credit to the original author because we do appreciate their work but we just despise the act because it takes too long. Also, keeping track of all the details of referencing styles and order is hard.
Fortunately, you can now help your child perform better in school by equipping him with the EasyBib app. All you’ll need to do to get this app running is to open the app on your mobile, point the camera at the book’s barcode and voila, you’re on your way to creating many citations.
You can also get help in citing references from websites, journals, databases and more so know that the app has got your back. The app supports ASA, AMA and 7,000 other referencing styles, so you’re sure to find what you’re looking for.
It happens to all of us. You’re helping your child on a particular assignment, and suddenly, you can’t figure out the answer to a specific question. Now, what do you do when even the adult doesn’t know how to solve a query? You turn to Socratic of course!
To enable the app in helping you, all you need to do is to take a picture of your question and the app will automatically use its artificial intelligence to figure out the concepts you need to know to solve the problem. The app also shares resources and other explanations that will make it easier for you to complete the assignment.
Socratic is free for download on iPhone and Android but beware because there are some other spam apps as well that just harm your device.
Last, but certainly not the least is Duolingo which is a top-rated app amongst students and professionals alike. If you’ve always wanted your child to learn a second or third language, this is the best app out there.
It is a known fact that learning to write or communicate in another language can be a challenge mainly if you don’t remain consistent. Duolingo makes everything a lot easier because it offers an interactive platform that gets you hooked from the beginning. The lessons are turned into challenging games that fuel your thirst to speak and write in the new language.
The app is thrilling, to say the least, and will keep you stimulated throughout. So, install Duolingo on your iOS or Android device and begin learning a new language along with your child.
Before we end this informative blog, it is best that you know that you should only download apps from trusted companies like airg and others that are well known. Remember that because there are a lot of dangerous viruses on the internet waiting to infect your device, you must be careful about the apps you permit for installation. For your device’s safety, make sure you have an anti-virus software.
